“It is not wise who knows many things, but who knows useful things”. (Aeschylus)
Who wants to handle unreliable data? Who likes to be bombarded with information? Did not find what you need? What kind of organization you want the knowledge of its staff to become obsolete? What company might want your employees to work together to take forward the activity?
Once overcame some temptations that we might fall not fighting the enemies of efficiency, we manage the knowledge precisely to fight on these fronts.
But sometimes we find ourselves lost. How to manage information and knowledge that are, or should be, within the company? Where to begin? …
Here’s the first question: How is the breeding ground for knowledge management in our company? We need to reflect on the culture and policies of our organization who may be having an impact on that create and use knowledge and information.

Another thought: on our intellectual capital. That is, on what is valuable to the company and that goes beyond the tangible (our external relationships, experience, and management systems, etc..). We must know what intangibles position us in our environment and what we have deficits. Since the most valuable aspect of intellectual capital is the knowledge, we know that we must maintain and enhance knowledge.
Furthermore, it is common that are already available to manage knowledge initiatives in the company, but have not labeled as such. The appropriate approach is to make an identification, at the macro level, on the systematic and tools already in place that encourage the generation and use of knowledge and information. So we have a starting point and also something to inspire us to move forward.
After analyzing this information some approches may arise in global, although it will also be necessary to address the issue from a micro perspective, i.e., analyzing processes. With this micro-analysis we’ll see what is to be improved to overcome obstacles that arise in particular. We will devote a future post to talk specifically about it.
To determine what we will do to manage information and valuable knowledge we must first know where we are and where we want to.
Would it be possible or wise to try to manage all the information and knowledge?
